If you are in internet marketing, there are a lot of things that you can do to ensure that you stay in business, and having good copywriting practices is definitely among them. Copywriting essentially refers to the process of producing good text for your website. Copywriting is what draws people to your business, tells them what you have to offer and why it is something that they want to take advantage of. Essentially, it lays out your business for them in such a way that they will be interested in joining up or taking advantage of your product. Though copywriting for internet marketing seems to a rarefied skill, it is actually quite straightfoward. After all, no one knows your business as well as you do, and who better to tell your prospective customers about it? Take a look below for some excellent tips when it comes to copywriting for an internet marketing campaign.
1. Your copywriting should not come across as an ad
Although your writing is meant to present your business to your customer in as persuasive and compelling a way as possible, remember that being seen as advertisement will drop your credibility down to zero. Essentially, the conventional wisdom states that you should not need to sell a product; it should sell itself. While this does have an element of truth, you’ll find that one way to loose
customers like crazy is to make them think that you are trying to sell them something.
2. Give the customer directions
One of the big mistake that novices make when it comes to internet marketing and copywriting is they get done telling the customer about all these wonderful things, but then they don’t follow up and show them how to take advantage of this. While some determined customers will spend a lot of time trying to figure out what they should do, most actually need it simplified for them. Take some time and think about what your call to action should be. Do you want them to buy a product? How can they do this? Do you want them to sign up for an e-mail list? Where can they put their e-mail?
3. Spend a lot of time on your headline and subheadings
When you are getting ready to work with good copywriting, remember that in terms of internet marketing, the first few seconds matter the most. You’ll soon realize that if the person in question doesn’t immediately like what they see, you’ll find that they click the back button. Your headline needs to grab their attention and make them read onward. Make sure that your headline relates to them and make sure that your subheadings give them reasons to keep on reading.
4. Make good use of testimonials
Testimonials are favorite copywriting techniques, and the nice part is that you don’t even have to write them yourself! If you have been in service for a while, there are probably plenty of people who have written in to thank you for your work and offer you accolades. Ask their permission and then put those testimonials up on your site. You can scatter them in their own separate boxes down the side of page. These are essentially your references and you’ll find that they are quite convincing in terms of internet marketing.
5. Be descriptive
When in doubt, relate your opportunity to what it can bring to your customer. Take some time when you are copywriting to relate the product to your customer; remember that internet marketing is all about the customer. How will it affect their lives, and what kind of benefits can it bring them? What are the benefits from taking advantage of your offer? If your customer can’t see where it will benefit him, he will most likely be pushing that back button, so make sure that he knows that this is one opportunity he can’t let go by.
6. Be a problem solver
According to your copywriting, your product will solve a problem or situation for your customer. Depending on what your product is, it will make their life simpler, make them more money, put them in a better state of mind, or any number of positive benefits. When it comes to internet marketing, the slant that you want to take is definitely towards solving a problem or filling a lack, so make sure that you phrase things in this fashion.
