The realm of copywriting for internet marketing is one that many people new to the industry often feel intimidated by, but there is no reason to feel like this. There are many different things that will pull internet marketing away from more standardized and traditional marketing, but the need for good copywriting is not among them. Copywriting, thanks to the text based nature of the internet, is one of the most important areas when it come to getting people interested in what you do, and there are many things to remember when you are doing it. If you are interested in copywriting, you can rest assured that it is no where near as complex as you might be afraid of, but you still need to be aware that it has its own rules and strictures. Copywriting for your internet marketing campaign is a big part of how successful you are, so take some time to figure these rules out.
1. Your copywriting needs to be clear
One of the things that you will learn is that when it comes to internet marketing, you need to be clear and concise. People can leave your site within seconds of entering it, and in these few settings you have to make sure that they understand what sort of benefit they get from your product or service. What problem are you going to solve for them, or what sort of advantage will you bring to their lives? These questions need to be answered immediately for them; don’t make them hunt for it, because they won’t!
2. Be unique
In your copywriting, make sure that they are aware that you are without a doubt, the only person who can provide them with this. This doesn’t mean that you ignore the existence of your competitors. In fact, internet marketing has made it impossible for you to do that. Simply state why your product or service is superior, whether that is in quality, level of customer service, or speed. There is something that sets you apart from the rest, so make sure that they know this.
3. Tell them how important you and your service are.
Your copywriting should tell them exactly what it is that they are getting for their money. No one wants to be cheated, and everyone wants to know that they are getting what they paid for, so take some time and really tell them what they are getting and why it is worth the money that they are spending. You’ll find that if you can make your marketing compelling enough, people will be lining up to buy from you and linking you to their friends as well, so make sure that this is not a place that you fall short.
4. Include a call to action.
You should also give your customers clear cut, no nonsense instructions. Few customers, no matter how interested in your offer they are, will contact you asking how to get involved. When it comes to internet marketing, one of the big roles that your copywriting will play is that of a guidebook. You will instruct your customer in to how they can take advantage of your service or goods, whether it is by signing up to an e-mail list or by ordering your product. In any case, giving them good directions on how to do this.
5. Don’t be shy!
Remember that you are copywriting, not writing content. When you write content, your goal is to inform people about things that they did not know; it is meant to communicate or entertain. The writing that you are putting on your site, however, is specifically a call to action, a request for them to purchase your goods, sign up to your list or call your company. Remember that when it comes to internet marketing, you will be consciously trying to get them to do something, not gently guiding towards a solution, but giving them that solution.
6. Be quick
Remember that people can leave your site as easily as they came to it. In some cases, they will leave within seconds, leaving all of your copywriting unread! To make sure that this does not happen, make sure that the first thing they see is a compelling headline. Tell them right away what you do and who you are, and how this relates to them. Good subheadings can be informative, but remember that your headline is crucial.
