Giving Google What It Wants
How do you know what Google wants? There’s an easy, free way that doesn’t involve Tarot cards, an Ouija Board, or Wordtracker.
What is this method? Does it come “free” with the latest Internet marketing information product? Can you get it when you opt-in to somebody’s list?
Nope, it’s not any of these things. Just look at what Google’s showing you.
When you do a search on your niche, sub-niche, or keywords, pay attention to what kind of content you’re being shown. It might not just be web pages. It’s pretty clear when images and video pop up in a “normal” web search. But what’s not always so obvious is the other specialty search items–news, blog feeds, and products–that often make their way onto the first page of Google.
Press releases can get you that spot. However, not all press release sites are created equally. If your PR releases to the free sites don’t work, you’ll be just about guaranteed results with PRWeb.com.
How often you need to do a press release will vary with your niche and current events. If news results are showing up at the top of the page, then it’s just plain stupid not to try for them!
Blogs are also popular with Google. They give Google two things that it really loves: user-generated content and regular updates.
Technically, most blog pages aren’t any different from other web pages. Add to this that popular blog posts can get many, many backlinks, and it’s easy to see why blogs have always done well in Google’s “regular” web search.
But Google also has its own blog search. It gets its information from blogs’ RSS feeds. So if your chosen niche, keyword, or key phrase shows lots of blog results, make sure to have a blog post or three, and ping your feed at http://blogsearch.google.com/ping. (This is also a good way to get spiders to your website, if you host your own blog.)
So if you ever want to write about the amazing new press release/news item that came out in your niche–you’re golden!
