What causes marketing on the internet to be consumed with so many fraudulent scammers? It’s anonymity. All you need is a connection to the internet and it can be done. The one thing preventing people from doing it more often is the fear of being discovered. Once online, the fact that nobody knows you, allows users to act in horrible ways.
For example, a man who would never steal an old lady’s purse on the street may think nothing of emptying her bank account using a phishing scam. Many of these charlatans justify their actions by blaming the victim: Well, she was stupid enough to give me her information!
Also, the ease of creating a scam makes the internet world cluttered with scam artists. It doesn’t take much knowledge to create a scam. In fact, English doesn’t even need to be known to effectively scam someone. All it takes is something that looks official, like an email adress, to take money from an unknowing recipient.
It is common for scams to be done with simple, well-known tactics that most people use on a daily basis, such as copy and pasting. The person creating the fake page simply copies a legitimate email from a well known company. All it takes are a couple tricks and changes in the code of the email. Many of these codes can be found with basic internet searches, too! After it is distributed, unknowing recipients reply to this unofficial email and the fraud artist has everything they need.
Furthermore, marketing on the internet is extremely cheap! It is so easy to find a site that offers free email addresses in which nothing is verified to determine the identity of the user. Also, it only costs a couple dollars to create your own website and once again it is not hard to replicate a real website to trick people into giving their money or bank information.
In real marketing, the sellers have to do a cost-benefit analysis to determine if the costs of a mailing or advertising scheme will bring in enough business to be worth the expense. Scammers don’t have this problem, because no matter how many emails you send, they are all free. In fact, cheap programs exist that will even send the emails for you, so you don’t even have to invest time in your scam!
So many emails can be sent, in fact, that even if only 1 percent of the recipients respond the scammer has still made out well! This technique has been used to such an extent that legitimate companies rarely use email blitzes anymore, because most people who receive these kinds of emails just assume they are scams!
In conclusion, charlatans and scam artists litter the internet with marketing scams more densely than other media because internet scams are easy, cheap, and require little (or no) training or special knowledge. All you need is an internet connection and time. You can also learn more on how to protect yourself from internet marketing scams by visiting Badguruscams.com
